Circa 1903-1904 Remingtons (2) with barrel in leather case was the personal property of Clark Gable, originally purchased from his estate in San Fernando Valley, Encino. These were a Christmas gift to Clark Gable from director, John Huston. The original leather case (Beehler, St. Louis), measuring 42x14x5” when closed, is labeled with affixed brass plate on the outside which reads, “Clark Gable Hollywood, Cal.” Each barrel stock, of which there are two in the case, is also labeled with a brass plate reading “Clark Gable Encino, Cal.” Finally a lone brass plate on the inside green velvet is labeled, “Clark Gable.” The case with the guns was given to Gable around the same time he bought his estate in Encino, CA. and was sold as part of that estate at auction. Also in the case is a leather belt holding 14 rounds of ammunition (13 12-gauge rounds and 1 20-gauge). The barrel, detached and sitting in its form fitting compartment, measures 28” in length. Each barrel stock, also in its respective form-fitting compartment, measures 32”. These guns were most certainly used by Clark Gable, and are presented in Excellent condition, nice and clean, as they were well taken care of. The leather, shooting vest was purchased from a later auction and comes with its original tag from that sale, marked, “Clark Gable’s Shooting Vest.” LOA for all from consignor.
