Collection of 34 mostly large photos (largest is 12x19.5”) is hand colored of a stricken couple with a dead baby. Some are babies and children and some are adults. The deceased was often laid out in a casket in the parlor at home. The photographer was commissioned to capture a portrait of someone who would be missed; the image was considered a keepsake, not a morbid reminder of mortality. The photos are from 1890s to 1941 although the majority are 1900 thru 1920. They are in mattes originating from all over the country (Maryland, Delaware, Illinois, Montana, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Montreal, Minnesota). Some are in coffins and some are propped up to look like they are sleeping. Condition overall is EX.
