Luxurious 14-karat gold trophy bowl was awarded to jockey, John Longden for riding the racehorse, Black Sheep in the 1962 American Derby in Washington Park. Longden is one of the most successful jockey's in history, compiling 6,032 victories - one of the highest totals ever. Trophy stands 11" tall and is extravagently engraved on the outer rim, "American Derby of 1962 - Washington Park." Small gold plate (also 14-karat gold) on front of wooden podium reads, "Won by BLACK SHEEP ch. c. 3, Nigromante - Dark Justice. Owner - C.R. Mac Stable, Inc. Trainer - Charles Whittingham. Jockey - John Longden. Gross Value - $116,250 - To Winner - $71,250. One Mile and a Quarter (Run at Arlnigton Park)." Beautiful, NRMT condition. Some minor chipping to the back side of wooden podium.
