Delightful artwork by Medcalf is a jubilant young "kid" in batting stance with Babe Ruth's face faded into the clouds in the background. The work is an exaggeration of the upstart Philadelphia Phillies, who boasted the youngest major league team ever. These youngsters, known from this point on as the "Whiz Kids", were the NL champs, defeating the heavily favored Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field on the last day of the season. Large print is underlined by "C'mon Kid!". Reinforced with 57 ink signatures from the Phillies and the A's. Highlights include Ashburn, Waitkus, Roberts, Ennis, Konstanty, Hamner, Dykes, Valo, C. Mack, M. Cochrane, & Fain. Signed in 1950 at Sam Horner's restaurant (notated in upper right corner). Signatures average EX-MT, print is EX. Sits in wooden frame under glass.
