Presented are two Ted Williams postcards of a circa late 1940s/early 1950s Fenway Park. Williams, a Hall of Fame left fielder, played his entire Major League career with the Boston Red Sox (1939-42 & 1946-60. Despite missing the equivalent of nearly five full seasons because of military service as a pilot in two wars, Willias still hit 536 home runs, won eight batting titles, and hit .406 in 1941, the last Major Leaguer to have batted at least .400. What could be more appropriate than a Williams signature on a Fenway Park photo, his home ballpark for all his Red Sox seasons.
1) This 3.5x5.4" color card is an artistic rendering of Fenway - with the light from the towers surreal. Willams signed a flowing, bold signature in black ink, a large signature ranging from left field into center field. Machine printed at the top of the card: "Fenway park - Home of the Boston Red Sox, Boston, Mass." The card back has some details about Fenway Park, including that it opened in 1912 and has a seating capacity of 35,000. The card back has some foxing and darkening, along with some tape residue, but the brief bio of Fenway Park is still easily legible. The front of the card is in nice condition. The Postcard has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED "AUTHENTIC AUTO" (85619155). The Williams signature is an 8 or 9/10.
2) The card depicts an artist's rendering of Fenway Park in the daytime. At the bottom of the front is machine printed, "Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts". Williams signed the postcard, in black ink, over the roof of the first base side of the stadium. It's a neat, bold signature. The back of the card has tape residue, with some darkening and foxing. In part, the back reads, "POST CARD/Place Stamp Here/A "COULORPICTURE" PUBLICATION, BOSTON 15, MASS. U.S.A." The offering has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED "AUTHENTIC AUTO". The Williams signature is an 8 or 9/10.
