New York Mets home jersey worn by pitcher Dwight Gooden during the 1987 season. The white knit pinstripe jersey is lettered "Mets" across the front and features the number "16" on the left breast and reverse. The name "Gooden" is lettered on the reverse, directly above the number. Located on the interior left front tail are a "Rawlings 44" label, a flag tag reading "Set 2 1987," and tag reading ""2 Inch Extra Length." Below the manufacturer's tag is a white strip tag bearing  the year, set number, and uniform number: "87 2 16." The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate wear.

Just two years removed from his incredible 24-win, Cy Young Award winning season of 1985, Gooden continued his reign as one of the game's top pitchers in 1987. Despite missing the first two months of the season, he still led the Mets in victories, finishing the year with a 15-7 record and a 3.21 ERA. Those numbers helped earn him a fifth-place finish in the National League Cy Young Award voting at season's end. One of the greatest pitchers in Mets franchise history, Gooden retired after the 2000 season with 194 wins and a 3.51 lifetime ERA. This is an outstanding early Gooden game-used jersey dating from his fourth season in the Majors.
