These garments once rode with the greatest cowboy television ever knew, “The Lone Ranger”. Carolina blue twill shirt is trimmed with navy piping and pearl faced snap buttons. A personal appearance costume dating circa 1970's. The collar tagging, with black marker “3”, is from “Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors” in North Hollywood. Nudie was the premier name in Rhinestone Tailoring and rodeo outfits throughout the Entertainment Industry from 1947-1984. Aside from the Lone Ranger, Nudie custom made suits for all of the most important Hollywood cowboys including John Wayne, Audie Murphy, Roy Rogers and even rock stars like Elvis. There is an additional tag on the inside seam of the right front tail which is printed with “Clayton Moore" and the date, of which only "9-5-_9” is legible. The date could have been "9-5-69." Matching pants share the same detail and tagging. Looks to have gotten great use. Originally sold at auction of the Estate of Clayton Moore and recently sold by Butterfield's. A wonderful and authentic piece of Hollywood Americana from the Clayton Moore estate.
