Autograph collector Wallace Evanger sent Cobb of Gene Schoor's 1952 book "The Story of Ty Cobb" to sign, but Cobb refused because he claims the book was done without his permission. Cobb then goes on a tirade about Schoor and the bookL
"In explanation, nothing ever sent me could inflame me more than this book, the so called author to my knowledge, I have never met this person Schoor, the book was done without my permission or knowledge, is full of plagiarism which is an offense of decent writing, these colored and some out + out untrue stories, hashed up by offside and irresponsible writers 3rd raters on papers to gain some attention at the players or subjects expense"
in the middle of Cobb's rant, on the second page, he signs his name "Ty Cobb"
On page three Cobb ends with "I have gone to more trouble to explain to you why I will not autograph this book than I have, to anyone else.
Signs with his full name at the end Tyrus R. Cobb with note "If it was not for marring your property, I would indicate the out + out false part of book"
