He played in five Major League teams: Washington Senators/Texas Rangers (1971-82), New York Mets (1977-78), New York Yankees (1979), Chicago Cubs (1980), Seattle Mariners (1981-82). Over the course of his MLB career, he played every position but pitcher. Randle batted a lifetime .257, with 27 home runs and 322 RBIs. Randle played bothg baseball and football for Arizona State, and he was a combative baseball player in the pros. In 1974, he bunted and crashed into Cleveland pitcher Milt Wilcox, precipitating a bench clearing brawl. Plus, while with the Texas Rangers in spring training in 1977, Randle learned he had lost the battle to be the Rangers' second base starter, to Bump Wills. Randle got into a heated argument with Texas manager Frank Lucchesi, and Randle punched Luchesi three times, breaking his jaw in three places and requiring plastic surgery. places. Lucchesi had to be hospitalized, and Randle was fined $1,500 and suspended for a month. Before that suspension was up, Randle was traded to the Mets. He batted .304 with the Mets in '77, with 75 runs scored, and 36 steals, a career high. While with the Mets in 1977, Randle was at bat in a home game when the lights atr Shea Stadium went out at the start of New York City 's famous 1977 black-out. Randle said, "I thought, 'God, I'm done. I thought for sure He was calling me. I thought it was my last at-bat." Randle struggled in the 1978 season, and the Mets released Randle in spring training in 1979, and Randle played 1979 with the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs.  Randle ended his playing career with two years on the Seattle Mariners.
