An official document regarding the United States military, signed by Teddy Roosevelt while he was President. Headlined and underlined by extravagant Americana graphics: a bald eagle with outspread wings, and “The President of the United States of America” at top, military equipment at the bottom. Announces, “To all who shall see these presents greeting: Know ye that reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities of Francis F. Longley, I have nominated and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate do appoint him Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in the service of the United States: to rank as such from the twelfth day of June, nineteen hundred and two.” Signed, bold and thick at the bottom in black fountain pen, “Theodore Roosevelt”. Also signed by Secretary of War, Elihu Root. Blue seal of the U.S. War Office in bottom left corner. Official stamp and signature of Adjutant General, Major General, U.S. Army in upper left. Matted to 15x18”. Framed to 22x25”. Excellent condition.
