Collection of 46 vintage news photographs, dating from the late 1930s to the 1970s, capturing legendary tennis player Bobby Riggs. Although Riggs was the world number one men's tennis player in 1946 and 1947, he is best remembered today for his famous "Battle of the Sexes" match against Billie Jean King in 1973. This collection features two photos of Riggs and King posing on the court together prior to their historic match, but the majority date to Riggs' amateur and professional career in the 1930s and 1940s. Of the 46 photos in the collection, nearly 33% (15) are wire photos, with the caption embedded in the photo (wire photos are not original photos, they were transmitted over phone lines and are similar to a fax). The photos vary in size, ranging from approximately, 4.5x7" to 8x11", with most measuring either 7x9" or 8x10". Because these were all working press photos, many display editorial crop marks and/or written notations on the front. Many display credit stamps and/or the original paper news caption on the reverse. Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Please note: none of the photos in this collection have been submitted to PSA for evaluation, so no guarantees are made regarding specific Type designations.
