A horseshoe worn by the legendary Secretariat. The shoe was originally offered for auction by Sotheby's/Amazon on behalf of Penny Chenery, the breeder for Secretariat. The silver shoe has been enclosed in lucite and includes a letter of provenance from Neil Bergelt, whose brother had originally purchased the piece at auction. The shoe was one of the two "Big Red" shoes consigned by Chenery for the auction. Big Red was the nickname given to the famed horse due to the color of his coat. Secretariat is widely considered to be one of the greatest racehorses ever. Foaled in 1970, Secretariat became the 9th horse to win the Triple Crown, doing so in 1973. The horse captured America's imagination and his name is now synonymous with racing success. Memorabilia from Secretariat's career is highly collectible, and sought after by collectors. This is an incredible piece from Secretariat's racing career and would be an ideal addition to any collection.
