"I arrived hoping to stop a great man," said Benfica goalkeeper Costa Rereira, "but I went away convinced that I had been undone by someone who was not born on the same planet as the rest of us." So said Rereira, a great goalie, of Pele, who, with 1,279 goals in 1,363 games is the greatest football (soccer) scorer of all time. Presented is a Pele signed CBD jersey. The CBD stands for, in Brazilian Portuguese, "Confederacao Brazilian de Desportes" (Brazil Confederation of Sports). The CBD ran the Brazilian National Football (soccer) Team. Pele, a forward who played mostly as a striker, signed with his club team, Santos, when he was only 15. He made his debut with the Brazilian National Team at age 16 and was a major part of Brazil winning three World Cups: 1958, 1962, and 1970. Pele's given name is Edson Arantes de Nascimento. His parents named him Edson in honor of inventor Thomas Edison.  Pele is a nickname, and the legendary player has said that he does not know its origins. Pele was also a magnificent playmaker, and his ball skills were so extraordinary that opponents could not tell whether he would dribble, pass, or shoot when he received the ball. Pele finished his formal playing career with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (1975-77). He passed away in 2022.

The signed jersey is canary yellow, with green trim. The front has a sewed-on, multi-colored CBD patch. The back has "Pele" in green, stenciled letters, and "10" in green, stenciled numerals. Pele signed "Pele" on the "1" numeral of the "10." He signed in silver marker, in a bold, neat signature. The numeral "1" of the "10" has a Beckett sticker (Cert. #Z56381). The signed jersey also comes with a Beckett COA, on a card, with the same Cert. Number: "Z56381." The jersey is in EXCELLENT condition.
