Rare silk commemorating the 75th "Run for the Roses" at Churchill Downs in 1949. This highly decorative silk features a large illustration of two horses competing at Churchill Downs in the center, while the perimeter displays the past winners of each Kentucky Derby beginning in 1875. Each of the four corners highlights a past winner, featuring both an illustration of the horse and pedigree, including War Admiral and the 1949 winner Ponder. The central illustration is credited to artist Helene Proteau. This is the first example of this scarce silk we have ever offered and we have seen just a few others at auction over the years. The silk (34x34") displays fold lines from having been stored folded for many years and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. (The item will be shipped folded.)
