Displayed is a great vintage offering of three publications, all from the collection of former Cincinnati Reds first baseman Jake Daubert, a first baseman for the Brooklyn Superbas, Robins, Dodgers (1910-18) and the Cincinnati Reds (1919-24). Daubert was a 2-time NL batting champion and the 1913 NL MVP. Daubert was a player on the Cincinnati Reds who won the 1919 World Series against the Chicago "Black Sox," when eight of the White Sox became involved with gamblers, and the World Series was fixed. The collection of booklets was consigned by Jake Daubert's family: 1) A "Players in the World Series Baseball Championship 1910" booklet. Measuring 3.25x6.25", the publication has 48 pages, not including covers. It features photographs and brief bios on players from the Philadelphia Athletics and Chicago Cubs, who met in the 1910 World Series with Philadelphia winning by a 4-1 margin in games. The booklet includes photos and write-ups on almost all the players from each team, and it has a blank score card. Hall of Famers: Chicago Cubs: Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers, and Frank Chance (the famous Tinker to Evers to Chance double play combination), plus Mordecai "Three Fingers" Brown. Philadelphia Athletics: Eddie Collins, Charles Albert "Chief" Bender, Frank "Home Run" Baker, and Eddie Plank. The booklet has a few minor folds and a small spot on page 48, but it is in overall very good condition, especially considering its age.
2) A 1915 souvenir program from the "Trans-Continental Tour/Stars American And National League Base Ball Teams." The offered program documented this tour. The program measures 6.75x10" and has 36 pages, including covers. The booklet not only covers the 1915 tour, but it also has coverage of the 1913-14 World Tour (featuring players from the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox, but including many added players from other teams), and a 1914 tour of Hawaii. The offered program has a scorecard and shows famous players such as Daubert, then on Brooklyn, Heinie Groh, a third baseman of the Cincinnati Reds, Max Carey, an outfielder from the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Wally Pipp, a first baseman from the New York Yankees. The program has some paper loss, tears, folds, and stains, but the imperfections are mostly on the covers rather than on the scorecard and inside pages.
3) A guide to the 1923 Cincinnati Reds titled The Reds of 1923, Brief Sketches of the Players and their Pictures - Who's Who in Redland. It measures 5.5x9.25", and has 32 pages, not including covers. The booklet sold for 15 cents. Among the many player sketches and photos is one on Daubert and another on Hall of Fame outfielder Edd Roush. The four centerfold pages are intact, they but have come loose from the staples. The is a slight overall darkening, very minor considering that the publication is over a century old. In addition, the pages have small corner folds, and there is wear and very minor paper loss on the covers. Overall, this "Who's Who" booklet is in very good condition. The collection of the three booklets makes fascinating reading, with tons of intriguing photos.
