Presented is a 2012 Cliff Lee Philadelphia Phillies Jackie Robinson home game worn and signed jersey from Jackie Robinson Day on April 15, 2012. Lee, a southpaw, pitched in the Major Leagues from 2002-14: Cleveland Indians (2002-09), Philadelphia Phillies (2009 & 2011-14), Seattle Mariners (2010), Texas Rangers (2010). Lee was 143-91 with a 3.52 ERA, for his career. In 2012, when this offered jersey was game worn, Lee was 6-9 with a 3.13 ERA. To celebrate Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson's breaking the modern Major League color line, all of the players in the Major leagues wear a team jersey with Robinson's jersey number 42, a number now retired in Major League Baseball except for Jackie Robinson Day each season. April 15th is the annual date for Jackie Robinson Day because April 15, 1947, was when Robinson made his Major League debut, playing first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field as Robinson went hitless but scored the deciding run in a 5-3 win over the Boston Braves.

The offered short sleeve white jersey has "Phillies" across the chest in red, with blue and white trim and a blue star serving to dot each letter "i." Seven cream white buttons run down the front. The left outside seam has a Majestic manufacturer's tag. The left outside tail has a Majestic manufacturer's tag with two Majestic holograms (092071 EK) and (499063 EK), and a smaller size "48" tag underneath. The left inside seam has a tag that gives washing instructions and shows "100% polyester." The rear outside collar has an MLB logo. On back is number "42" in red sewn-on numerals with blue trim. Using a black marker, Lee signed the upper back, adding his regular Phillies uniform number "33." The jersey is in EXCELLENT condition. When Jackie Robinson was a rookie in 1947, the Philadelphia Phillies' manager, Ben Chapman, in the early season would shout racial epithets at Robinson and order his pitchers to knock Robinson down if the pitchers got two strikes ahead of him in the count. Chapman's treatment of Robinson became national news, and Chapman was ordered by the National League to desist, and he eventually apologized to the Dodgers trailblazer. Thus, a Phillies jersey with Robinson's number 42 carries a special, ironic significance to an astute baseball fan.
