Displayed is a David "Deacon" Jones signed Los Angeles Rams helmet with two inscriptions. Jones was a Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end who was one of the best defensive linemen of all-time. Jones played 14 NFL seasons: Los Angeles Rams (1961-71), San Diego Chargers (1972-73), Washington Redskins (1974). He was a part of the Los Angeles Rams' defensive line of the 1960s, the "Fearsome Foursome," which also included Merlin Olsen, Rosey Grier, and Lamar Lundy. Jones said he gave himself the nickname "Deacon" because there were many other persons named David Jones in the Los Angeles phone book, and he wanted to distinguish himself with something that had a religious connotation - hence "Deacon." The 2-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year was a 5-time NFL sacks leader. In his playing career, sacks, a term that Jones is credited with inventing as regards football, was not an official NFL statistic until 1982, but unofficial records have recorded 173.5 sacks for Jones, third all-time in the NFL and first at the time Jones retired.

The offered helmet is a Historic Helmet manufactured by Riddell. The suspension helmet is blue and white, with the white on each side in the shape of the traditional Ram's horns. A white chin strap reads, "Riddell." The helmet has a three-bar cage. The back shows "Riddell," with the second half of the name rubbed off. Also, on back is "KRA-LITE" and a PSA sticker (AN54992). A piece of hard plastic tape inside reads, "75 Jones," with the "5" and "J" partially rubbed off. Inside, on part of the suspension material is a handwritten "7 3/8" in black marker by an unknown hand. On the suspension material at the back is a machine stamped "2." At the top left front outside, is a small bubbling of about a half inch in diameter. Jones used a fine tip fine black marker to sign and inscribe the helmet. His signature is bold, and the neatly written inscription reads, "HOF 80/RAMS." The helmet weighs approx. 48.4 ounces. Even with the aforementioned minor imperfections, the helmet is in EXCELLENT condition. It comes with a PSA COA (AN54992). Historic Suspension Helmet.
