Displayed is a 1926 World Series "Official Score Card" (program) from the noteworthy World Series that was won by the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games over the New York Yankees. The scorecard was made to be used for any of the three games of the World Series that were played at the Cardinals' home field, Sportsman's Park. In that Series, while the Yankees were in St Louis, Babe Ruth was sent a letter from the Sylvester family of Essex Fells, New Jersey, informing the Babe that little Johnny Sylvester, a great Babe Ruth and Yankee fan, was seriously ill. Ruth sent Johnny two baseballs, one team-signed by the Yankees and one team-signed by the Cardinals. Ruth also sent a note saying, "I'll knock a home run for you on Wednesday." In that game, Ruth did more than keep his word: He bashed three home runs as the Yanks won 10-5. This incident was dramatized, while taking some liberties with the facts, in the 1948 film The Babe Ruth Story. The '26 World Series was also famous for Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander coming into Game 7 at Yankee Stadium with the Cards protecting a 3-2 lead and with the Yankees having the bases loaded, two outs, and Hall of Famer Tony Lazzeri at bat. Alexander struck out Lazzeri and went the rest of the way, closing the door on the Yanks as he pitched scoreless relief for the save.

The offered scorecard (program) has 16 pages and measures 7.75x10.5". In part, the cover reads, "For the Championship of the World/1926 Official Score Card." It has a two-page scorecard, small bios of the players, circular, 1.25" diameter photos of the players. The scorecard is scored. The offering has some stains, some small partial tears, some small areas of paper loss, and some minor darkening from the passage of time. Despite the aforementioned minor defects, the scorecard's condition allows for an enjoyable trip back in time (it's almost a century) for anyone thumbing through the program's contents.
