Presented is a vintage album called The Terrors of America, produced by W. Duke Sons & Co. in 1889. Duke Tobacco put out a set of 50 cards that were included in their cigarette packs in 1888.  The images of these cards are included in the 1889 album, often with six on a page. The set and album are both titled The Terrors of America, and the cards and the album that somewhat reproduces them interpret the terror in the title very gently, as the images portray boys and young men playing sports or games, or misbehaving or even getting into a precarious situation, but it is all done in a light-hearted way, and real terror never appears. Some of the images involve baseball: Number 1 is called "The Umpire," Number 2 is called "The Pitcher," and Number 3 is called "The Batter." Most of the images taken from the fifty Duke cards are not of organized team sports, however. Number 8 is called "Snow Balling," Number 20 is called "Tug of War," and one is called, "I Didn't Steal No Apples."

The book's cover has come off, and has paper loss, but it is included. The book's 13 one-sided pages are thick and have images on one side only. The book also contains some images of girls and young women, more formally dressed than the boys and young men. The book shows wear, with small usage folds at the corners of the pages, and a number of small tears, corner paper loss, folds, and some slight darkening. Although there are imperfections, the book provides a riveting look back in time, when the so-called "Terrors of America" were in actuality merely sports, games and very minor mischief.
