Inaugural Hall of Famer Ty Cobb had an MLB batting average of .366, the highest in history. He was also a marvelously shrewd businessman, accumulating an enormous fortune from his stock shares in General Motors and Coca-Cola. So, a signed check by Cobb lends a business touch to the incredible competitor who once held both the MLB record for hits (4,189) and stolen bases (897). The "Georgia Peach" played all but the final two seasons of his Major League career with the Detroit Tigers. During and after his playing years, Cobb was quietly extremely generous with his money, often sending checks to needy former players, including some players from the Negro Leagues.

The offered check measures 3.6x8.6", and it is written on "The Bank of California/National Association/San Francisco." It is dated "May 10, 1935." The check has been written to "Robert Ross" for the amount of "$12.30." Cobb neatly signed in black ink from a fountain pen, signing as "Tyrus R. Cobb." The offering exhibits some very slight darkening, but it is in overall EXCELLENT condition. The check has been encapsulated with a "PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AUTO GRADE ONLY/MINT 9."
