Presented is a circa 2003 Billy Wagner game-used, signed fielder's glove of the left-handed relief pitcher who was recently elected to the Hall of Fame. "Billy the Kid" will have his National Baseball Hall of Fame induction in Cooperstown on July 27, 2025. Wagner was born in Virginia in 1971, and while growing up there, he broke his right arm playing football when he was seven years old. When the right arm broke again soon after the initial break, Wagner, to allow his right arm to heal, began throwing left-handed. He stuck with it - with terrific results! In 16 Major League seasons, the 5'10", 180 lbs. reliever pitched for the Houston Astros (1995-2003), Philadelphia Phillies (2004-05), New York Mets (2005-09), Boston Red Sox (2009), and Atlanta Braves (2010). He has a lifetime record of 47-40, with a 2.31 ERA and an amazing 1,196 strikeouts in 903.0 innings, a strikeout rate per nine innings higher than that of any other pitcher in MLB history who has thrown at least 900 innings. The 7-time All-Star has 422 career saves, and he won the 1999 NL Rolaids Relief Man Award when on the Houston Astros. The offered glove was game used when Wagner was on Houston (2003) and/or Philadelphia (2004).
The offered glove (worn on the right hand) is in black leather, constructed of Louisville Slugger's top grade steerhide, and bound with tanned and black tanned rawhide laces. Although nice wear has made it faint, the model number: "G125-11P" is stamped on the inner pinky sleeve. The glove has a closed back, an adjustable, fleece lined wrist strap, a "Bruise-Guard added palm pad, and a pro-style basket web. The manufacturer's labeling includes: A "TPX Pro" wrist label and a Louisville Slugger "L" logo on back of the thumb sleeve, and "TPX" appears on back of the third finger sleeve. "Louisville" and "Louisville Slugger" are respectively foil stamped in gold on the heel and face of the pinky. On the back of the pinky sleeve appear "H&B" and the Three Star year code. The size is 11.75". Wagner, using a silver pen, signed a big and bold signature on the back of the index finger sleeve, a spot with a ton of wear. "Billy Wagner" is embroidered on the back of the thumb sleeve in white. The glove exhibits outstanding use, with substantial wear shown. The glove comes with a PSA/DNA LOA (Certification: 1G01052). The PSA/DNA LOA states that the glove was used during 2003-04.
