Displayed is a Rusty Staub 100% authentic, aesthetically stunning, firefighter's officer's helmet that was gifted to Staub by the FDNY (Fire Department of the City of New York). Daniel "Rusty" Staub was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1944. He had a 23-year MLB playing career: Houston Colt .45s (1963-68), Montreal Expos (1969-71 & '79), New York Mets (1972-75 & 1981-85), Detroit Tigers (1976-79), Texas Rangers (1980). The 6-time All-Star had 2,716 hits with 292 home runs and a career .279 batting average. He is the only Major Leaguer in history to have had 500 hits for four different teams: Houston, Montreal, New York Mets, and Detroit. He was a right fielder and first baseman, and later in his career, he was often a designated hitter or pinch hitter. While with the Montreal Expos in their first seasons as a National League expansion team, Staub spoke French with the fans, was a top power hitter and became enormously popular. Known as Rusty, because of his orange/red hair, since he was a child, Montreal fans nicknamed the big slugger as "le Grand Orange" (the Big Orange). Staub said that he vividly remembered, as a child, saying the Rosary for his uncle, a police officer lost in the line of duty in New Orleans. That childhood event caused Staub to have a great lifetime bond with first responders and their families. Later, while with the Mets, Staub established the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund. Both before after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Staub was very involved in charity work for the sake of the families of New York City's first responders.

The offered white helmet is an actual firefighting helmet that appears to be unused. A label affixed to the inside of the helmet includes the following: Morning Pride Manufacturing of Dayton, Ohio; Model HDOBFOOHW; Dealer Z210; Color: White; MFG Date: 03/16/2006; Principal Materials: Composite; Serial Number: 0603006952; Size: 6-9.5". A warranty label is affixed to the underside of the back of the helmet. The helmet has a headband, chin strap, protective face/eye shield, and a hook for hanging. The helmet has a length of approx. 15" and a height of approx. 7". It weighs four (4) lbs. The traditional shield on front has a firefighter logo and reads, "FDNY Daniel J. 'Rusty' Staub." Rusty Staub passed away in 2018. The helmet, with terrific eye appeal, is emblematic of the bond between the FDNY and Rusty Staub, especially after the incredible charity work after 9/11 that Staub performed for the FDNY firefighters and their families. The helmet is in EXCELLENT condition.
