Presented is a nice, circa 1918 vintage photo of Inaugural Hall of Famer Babe Ruth, posed with Boston Red Sox teammates Herb Pennock and Dick Hoblitzell. In the 1918 season, Ruth was performing both as a pitcher and a hitter, foreshadowing what Shohei Ohtani is trying to accomplish over a century later. As one of baseball's top pitchers, Ruth was a southpaw with a record of 13-7, with a 2.22 ERA in '18. As a hitter, he led the American League in home runs that season, with 11 round-trippers, as baseball was still in the dead ball era. The location of the photo is unknown, and it may have been with the players' wives.

To the Babe's right is another Hall of Fame southpaw, Pennock. He had a lifetime 241-162 record, and, with Ruth, were two of the numerous former Red Sox players who helped make the Yankees of the 1920s-30s such a dynasty. Pennock was on four New York Yankees World Championship teams. On the far left of the photo is Dick Hoblitzell, the Red Sox first baseman at the time. A good player with a career .278 batting average, Hoblitzell later became a member of the U.S. Army dental corps during World War I. The Red Sox often used to room the steady and studious Hoblitzell with Ruth, hoping that Hoblitzell would be a steadying influence on the rambunctious Bambino. The offered photo measures approx. 5x7". Each of the corners has paper loss, and the photo has some stains, some small folds, and some crinkling. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC."
