Floyd Little, who wore number 44, followed previous Syracuse University running backs wearing number 44, Jim Brown and Ernie Davis, into national stardom. Presented is a gorgeous Floyd Little Denver Broncos NFLPA AFC Rushing Champion Award. After his years at Syracuse, Little signed with the Denver Broncos when the team was still a member of the American Football League. After three years in the AFL, Little became an NFL running back when the NFL and the AFL merged before the 1970 season. In 1971, Little had his best professional season. He carried an NFL leading 284 times for a league-leading 1,133 yards with six rushing touchdowns. He added 26 pass receptions for 255 yards to lead the NFL with 1,388 total yards from scrimmage. Little played his entire AFL/NFL career with the Denver Broncos, finishing with 6,323 yards rushing and a 3.9 per carry average. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010. The offered award is metal. A 2.25x7.2" metal plaque at the base of the award reads, "FLOYD LITTLE DENVER BRONCOS 1971 AFC Rushing Champion/1133 Yards/National Football League Players Association." Even though the aforementioned award is for the American Football Conference of the NFL, Little led the entire NFL in rushing in '71. Also on the plaque is an image of a football and "National Football League Players." The trophy is 13.75" in height and it has a base diameter of 6.75". The award, with its angular image of a football player, has a resemblance to an Academy Award, an "Oscar." The award has some tiny chips, and some small paint, light surface loss, and slight tarnishing in a few places. Considering its more than five decade age, it is in very good condition. Floyd Little, popular with players and fans, passed away in 2021, and the award makes a fine remembrance for him and the early teams of the Denver Broncos.
