Displayed is a 1988 Howard Johnson New York Mets signed and inscribed, game worn jersey. Johnson played in the Major Leagues from 1982-95, most notably for the Mets (1985-93). Mostly a third baseman, he also played shortstop and the outfield. "Hojo" was a switch-hitter who had an overall solid career, but in a five-year span for the Mets, from 1987-91, he was truly outstanding. In that span, he AVERAGED 31 home runs and 32 stolen bases per season, three times having at least both 30 homers and 30 steals. Johnson was a 2-time World Champion, with the '84 Detroit Tigers and the '86 Mets. The gray, knit, short sleeve jersey front has "NEW YORK" in sewn-on blue letters with orange and white trim. The right sleeve has "Rawlings" embroidered in white. In the lower left, inside tail is a Rawlings manufacturer's tag, with an MLB logo, showing size "42." An adjacent tag shows "SET 1/1988." On back is "H. JOHNSON" in sewn-on blue letters, with orange and white trim. Underneath the player's name is "20" in blue sewn-on numerals with orange and white trim. Johnson signed in front, and added his uniform number "20," both in neatly scripted in blue ink from a fine tip marker. The jersey shows nice wear throughout, and it is in overall EXCELLENT condition.
