Rare Pro Football Hall of Fame gold jacket worn by NFL Films founder Ed Sabol during his 2011 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In the field of professional sports, no garment symbolizes greatness more than the iconic gold jackets issued by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Although even the most casual sports fan is familiar with the Pro Football Hall of Fame gold jackets, they are seldom seen at auction. This is the first example we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen more than a handful at auction in the past 25 years.

The gold jacket, produced by Haggar, features the NFL logo patch on the left breast. A label reading "Custom Tailored For/Ed Sabol/Class of 2011/265" appears on the left front interior. A "Haggar" label appears on the right front interior. The interior gold lining features both the Pro Football Hall of Fame logo and the Haggar logo repeated throughout. This jacket has been consigned directly by Ed Sabol's longtime personal assistant, who is the source for all the Ed Sabol personal items featured in this auction. It is also accompanied by a second gold jacket issued to Sabol for his 2011 induction, which he never wore, that is slightly darker in color and features a striped lining in the sleeves.

The reason for the two jackets, according to our consignor, is that at the time of Sabol's induction, Haggar was having trouble getting the correct material for their Hall of Fame jackets. In haste, they made Sabol a jacket that was close to the original, but not exact. Luckily, the right material was obtained just days before the ceremony, and Sabol was able to wear the correct jacket for the ceremony (the second jacket was never worn and remained in Sabol's closet for the remainder of his life). Accompanying the two jackets is a pair of Ed Sabol's red socks. As most people know, Sabol was known for wearing red socks, regardless of how he was dressed. All the garments remain in Excellent to Mint condition.
