Hall of Fame right-hander Dazzy Vance is the only pitcher to have led the National League in strikeouts for seven consecutive years. Offered is a 1930s Dazzy Vance Word Wide Photo original Type I photo. Vance pitched in the Major Leagues from 1915-35 for five different teams, most notably the Brooklyn Robins/Dodgers. He had a 197-140 career record, with a 3.24 ERA. Vance won the 1924 pitching Triple Crown and the '24 NL MVP with Brooklyn, leading the NL in wins (28), ERA (2.16) strikeouts (262). The Brooklyn Dodgers were famed for the wacky events at Ebbets Field, and Vance was a key participant in one of Brooklyn's craziest moments. In an Aug. 15, 1926 game, the first of a double-header, the Boston Braves were in the field and Brooklyn had the bases loaded. Vance was a runner on second base and Chick Fewster was on first base. Then-Brooklyn slugger Babe Herman crashed a hit off the right field wall. Vance, rounding third base, mistakenly thought the Brooklyn third base coach was holding him and so Vance retreated to third base to find Fewster there and Herman, running with his head down, arriving from second base. There were three men on third base. Vance held the base, as was was entitled to it and Fewster and Herman were tagged out. Thus, for years to come, a fan would say, "The Dodgers have three men on base," and another fan would ask, "Which base?" The 7x9" photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC."
