Presented is a charming 1964 Yoo-Hoo chocolate drink advertising display, with Yogi Berra. As reported in an informative article from www.centerfieldmaz.com, The Yoo-Hoo Company goes back to 1928 when owner Natale Olivieri started bottling the beverage in Garfield, New Jersey. Yogi lived in Montclair, New Jersey, when he played for the New York Yankees, and Berra met Yoo-Hoo owner Olivieri at a country club function in the late 1950s. At that time, the Yoo-Hoo Company wasn't doing very well, and when the two men were talking, Olivieri asked for Yogi's opinion. Berra said that he actually drank Yoo-Hoo and really liked it, so Yogi and a number of his Yankees teammates began promoting Yoo-Hoo in advertisements and appearances. Yogi would even visit the new bottling plant in Carlstadt, New Jersey, and the factory workers cheered him as a hero. Yoo-Hoo sales boomed. According to the aforementioned article, "One time Yogi answered the phone in the Yoo-Hoo office, and a woman caller asked if Yoo-Hoo was hyphenated. He replied, "No ma'am. It's not even carbonated." (Actually, Yoo-Hoo is a hyphenated word, but Yogi never let a hyphen get in the way of a good story.) Yogi eventually became a major stockholder in the Yoo-Hoo Company and held his shares until the company began to repeatedly change hands in the late 1970s.

The offered advertising display, on very thick cardboard, measures approx. 11x14". The display reads, "The drink of champions!/Yoo-Hoo CHOCOLATE DRINK/WITH THE 'MILK CHOCOLATE' FLAVOR." In 1964, getting eight members of the Yankees to pitch a chocolate drink was no small deal. The Yankees, through the 1964 season, had won five pennants in a row, and 15 out of the last 18 American League pennants, with ten of those years including a World's Championship. The eight photos of individual Yankees holding a Yoo-Hoo bottle: Hall of Famers Berra (In '64, the Yankees' new manager), Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, plus Yankees starters Moose Skowron, Elston Howard, Joe Pepitone, Tom Tresh, and Bobby Richardson. The back of the display has a 10.7" intact and never used cardboard display stand for the item. The display has some slight wear in the corners with some very small paper loss and some smudges, and the display has a very minor, hardly noticeable curve to it that still easily permits display. With the exception of the aforementioned slight imperfections, the advertising display is in EXCELLENT condition.
