Daniel "Rusty" Staub was a 23-year Major Leaguer (1963-85) and the only player in history to have accumulated at least 500 hits for four different teams: Houston Colt .45s/Astros, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers. Displayed is a 1970-72 Rusty Staub Montreal Expos or New York Mets game used bat, as Staub played the 1970-71 seasons for Montreal and moved to the New York Mets for '72. Staub, a left-handed batter, was a 5-time All-Star. Mostly a right fielder and first baseman, in his final seasons Staub became mainly a pinch hitter, an excellent one. An original Montreal Expo, Staub learned French and became so popular with Montreal fans that he earned the nickname "Le Grand Orange," meaning "The Big Orange," based on his bright orange hair. Staub was the founder of the New York Police and Fire Widows and Children's Benefit Fund, an organization that raised more the 112 million dollars to help families of first responders to the 9-11 attack in 2001. The offered bat is 33.75" long and it has a weight of 31.5 ounces. Etched on the barrel of the Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger bat 125 is "GENUINE/RUSTY STAUB/LOUISVILLE SLUGGER." The ash, professional model bat has a standard finish. It shows really nice use. There is a pop-up crack in the high handle. Then handle shows light pine tar residue. Number "31" (for the bat weight) is written in pencil on the knob, by an unknown hand. Also, etched on the knob is the model number "S256." On the bat head is a PSA/DNA sticker (#1B08876).
