Displayed is a James "Cool Papa" Bell Rawlings Official League Hall of Fame baseball autographed by the Hall of Fame Negro Leagues center fielder. Bell played in the Negro Leagues from 1922-46, with the St. Louis Stars, Pittsburgh Crawfords, and many other teams. He broke into the Negro Leagues with St. Louis in 1922 as a knuckleball pitcher, and he earned the nickname of "Cool" for striking out Hall of Famer Oscar Charleston. Bell added the Papa part of his nickname because he thought "Cool Papa" sounded better than just "Cool." After a few seasons, he became primarily a center fielder, using his great speed to advantage. He is credited with rounding the bases in 13.1 seconds on a wet field and claimed he could run around the bases in 12 seconds flat on a dry field. He was a master at going from first to third on a bunt and scoring from first on a single. Bell used a blue ballpoint pen to sign on the sweet spot, signing a clearly scripted, James "Cool Papa" Bell. The ball has a few light smudges and is in overall very good condition. Bell's autograph is a 9/10.
