Presented is a 1905 Sporting Life W601 Philadelphia Phillies team composite, with Hall of Famers Hugh Duffy and Kid Nichols. The Phillies had an 83-69-3 record in '05, finishing in 4th place in the NL. The team was managed by Hall of Fame outfielder Hugh Duffy, who also played that year as a bench player, batting .300. Hall of Famer Pitcher Kid Nichols, who won 362 lifetime Major League games, went 10-6 in 1905, with a 2.27 ERA. Sherry Magee was the Phillies top hitter that season, batting .299 and leading the team in home runs (5) and RBIs (98). Kid Gleason was the team's second baseman, and he went on to become the famous honest manager of the 1919 Chicago "Black Sox," the White Sox team that had eight players banned for life for involvement in "throwing" the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. The aforementioned players have small. approx. 2" tall photos in the display, which also has 15 similar, additional photos: Pitchers - Lush, Duggleby, Corridon, Pittinger, Sparks; Catchers - Dooin, Abbott, Munson; Infielders - Bransfield, Doolin, Courtney; Outfielders - Thomas, Titus Kruger; Team President - W.J. Shettsline. The Phillies home ballpark was the famed Philadelphia Ball Park, which later was informally called Baker Bowl. The composite itself measures approx. 10.75x11.75". In the center of the display, verbiage reads, "PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES/NATIONAL LEAGUE 1905." The display is matted in an attractive manner, with vertical lines resembling Phillies pinstripes, framed to 16x17.25". The composite appears to be in NEAR MINT condition.
