Russell won an incredible 11 NBA Championships in his 13 years in the league, the final two as the Celtics' player-coach. In 1974 he was the coach of the Seattle SuperSonics. The offered check measures 2.75x6", and it is written on the FirstLine Seattle First National Bank in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25.00). The check is dated July 30, 1974. Russell used his middle initial (for Felton) when signing in blue ballpoint ink, as "William F. Russell." Russell signed very few autographs. When youngsters would ask him for an autograph, Russell was known to say, "I will be glad to talk with you, but I do not sign autographs." Russell has stated that he felt autographs were impersonal and he preferred conversation instead. Thus, Russell's autographs are scarce compared to that of his basketball contemporaries.
