Roman Gabriel The Sporting News Marlboro Award for 1969 NFL Player of the Year. The football-style award includes a wooden base that is 5" tall and 6.75" wide. A silver sheet of metal is screwed into the base. It measures 4.875" wide x 4.5" high, and it reads, "THE SPORTING NEWS MARLBORO AWARD, ROMAN GABRIEL, PRESENTED TO THE NFL PLAYER OF THE YEAR, 1969." A metal football is screwed into the top of the base. The length of the football is 13", and when the football is screwed onto the base, the total height of the award is 16.5". The award is in very good condition overall. There is a small ding in the side of the football, as well as a larger dent that measures approximately 2" wide. Gabriel played in the NFL from 1962 to 1977 for the Rams and Eagles. This one-of-a-kind trophy was purchased from one of Roman Gabriel's family members.
