Toots Shor, a New York City saloonkeeper, ran an iconic bar and restaurant named Toots Shor's Restaurant, in New York City's midtown area. With his larger-than-life personality, Toots seemingly knew all the famous sports and entertainment figures of his time. In fact, Toots attended the iconic 1951 New York Giants/Brooklyn Dodgers third game playoff, at NYC's Polo Grounds, with Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World," accompanied by pals Frank Sinatra and Jackie Gleason. So, when Toots staged a Hall of Fame baseball reunion at his West 51st Street watering hole in 1951, the ever-popular Toots attracted an amazing assemblage of Hall of Famers, and the offered signed Hall of Famer baseball is the incredible result. The ball has signatures of 13 Hall of Famers, with some of the players' careers dating back to vintage times: Ty Cobb, SS Tris Speaker, Cy Young, Jimmie Foxx, Mel Ott, Rogers Hornsby, Ed Walsh, Kid Nichols, Pie Traynor, Fred Clarke, Mickey Cochrane, Charlie Gehringer, and George Sisler. The signatures, mostly signed with a blue marker, are relatively bold, but some of the marker signatures have light ink spotting in some spots. Cobb and Cochrane signed in blue ballpoint. The autographs are signed on an Official National League Ball (Frick), 1947-51. All the signatures contrast sharply against the slightly off-white ball. The autographs average 7/10 overall. The condition of the ball would be NM or better if not for the ink spotting. The offering comes with a PSA/DNA LOA.
