Official National League (Heydler) baseball signed by Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson in black fountain across the sweet spot. Mathewson's signature grades 7/10 on average, with just slight fading to the "so" in Mathewson. It must be noted that JSA has determined that a tiny portion of both the "C" in "Christy" and the "a" in "Mathewson" have been slightly enhanced in blue ink (not noticeable to the naked eye) but the remainder of the signature is untouched.

This ball dates to the 1919-24 manufacturing period. At the time, Mathewson was suffering from tuberculosis, the disease that eventually took his life in 1925 at the age of forty-five. His early passing is the main reason for the rarity of Mathewson single-signed balls today. This is just the third we have ever offered and one of probably fewer than twenty known, many of which are in far lesser condition. The offered ball also comes with the unique provenance of having once resided in the fame Geddy Lee Collection. (Geddy Lee sold his entire collection at auction in 2023 and this ball has been consigned directly by the purchaser in that sale.) The ball is also featured in Geddy Lee's limited-edition book "72 Stories from the Collection of Geddy Lee."

The ball displays light, scattered age toning, and a few minor surface abrasions. Most of the manufacturer's stampings remain legible and ball is in overall Very Good to Excellent condition. Full LOA from JSA. Additional letter of provenance from Geddy Lee. (Please note: PSA would not issue an LOA for this ball due to policies related to the minor enhancement.)
