1948-49 Leaf #8 Satchel Paige rookie card. Graded FR 1.5 by SGC. Considered one of the most important postwar baseball cards, Satchel Paige's historic rookie card is also one of the rarest. Paige was one of forty-nine short print cards in the 108-card 1948-49 Leaf set. That, along with Paige's legendary status in the game and the fact that it represents his rookie card, has made Paige's 1948-49 Leaf one of the most sought after cards in the hobby. This example originates from our consignor's father, who collected it as a child, and has never before been offered for sale, either publicly or privately. (The card was submitted for grading by Lelands.) 

In addition to making its hobby debut in this sale, the card also holds the distinction of being perhaps the most attractive FR 1.5 example ever offered. The reason for its technically accurate grade is mainly due to a small amount of surface-paper loss near the base of the reverse left border. Otherwise, the card is closer to VG in its frontal appearance and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced 1948-49 Fleer or Hall of Fame card collection.
