Displayed is a 1934 Colored World Series Classic Sept. 9th ticket stub from a game between the Pittsburgh Crawfords and the Philadelphia Stars that ended tied at 1-1. The Pittsburgh Crawfords, owned by Gus Greenlee, finished in first place in the Negro National League in '34, with a record of 47-27-3. Hall of Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige was the Crawfords' best pitcher that season, with a 13-3 NNL record, and a 1.54 ERA. Hall of Fame catcher Josh Gibson batted .317 for the '34 Crawfords, and led the NNL in doubles, home runs (15), runs (56), and RBIs (59). Other Pittsburgh stars included Hall of Fame center fielder "Cool Papa" Bell, who batted .317 that year, and Hall of Fame OF/1B Oscar Charleston, who was the Crawfords' playing manager, hitting .322. The Philadelphia Stars finished in second place in the NNL in '34, with a record of 36-18-10, but in the World Series, they emerged as NNL Champions. Pitcher "Slim" Jones was a one-year wonder, with a 20-4 record and 1.24 ERA as he led Philadelphia to the NNL Championship in the Colored World Series. In the Sept. 9th contest, Satchel Paige struck out 12 Philadelphia batters and Slim Jones had nine strikeouts. The offered ticket stub measures 2.25x2.3". The stub reads, in part, "3097/GRAND STAND [sic] $1.00/YANKEE STADIUM/COLORED WORLD SERIES CLASSIC Sunday SEPT. 9, 1934/RAIN CHECK". The ticket stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded FR 1.5. The ticket stub is a super rare one; only two have ever been graded by PSA, and the other is a 3. The only reason that this one is not higher is because of a slight glue stain and paper loss on the back. The front of the ticket is beautiful.
