Colorful 1939 Baseball Centennial first-day cover signed by Hall of Fame second baseman Johnny Evers. Evers has beautifully scripted his name in black fountain pen, with the signature grading 9/10. The original owner of this piece, which commemorates Cooperstown as the birthplace of baseball, was certainly prescient, as Evers was elected to the Hall of Fame seven years later in 1946. However, he died one year later. As a result, his signature remains scarce today. This is an exceptional example and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Hall of Fame autograph collection. The envelope (6.5x3.5") displays two moderate tone lines on the reverse (which can be seen from the front) and a handwritten ".10" in pencil in the lower right corner. Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from JSA.
