Bo Jackson is unquestionably one of America's best two-sport professional athletes, as he became the only North American professional athlete to ever become an all-star in two major sports (baseball & football). Presented is a 1989 Bo Jackson signed Kansas City Royals jersey. A little-known fact about Jackson is that he was named after actor Vince Edwards, and Bo was born as Vince Edward Jackson. An outfielder, Jackson played eight Major League seasons: Kansas City Royals (1986-90), Chicago White Sox (1991 & '93), California Angels (1994). He batted a career .250, with 141 home runs. His best season was his All-Star year of '89, when as a Royal he batted .256 with 32 homers, 105 RBIs, and 26 steals. In college, Jackson, a running back, won the Heisman Trophy for his play at Auburn University. He played in the NFL as an Oakland Raiders fullback and running back, from 1987-90. He gained 2,782 yards on 515 attempts as an NFL back, scoring 16 rushing touchdowns and adding another two scores on pass receptions, and in 1989 he was also an All-Star in football. In 1989 and '90, Bo Jackson became famous for a Nike advertisement campaign, called "Bo Knows," that had Jackson working with musician Bo Diddley to endorse Nike cross-training shoes.
The white knit home jersey has "Royals" in sewn-on blue script across the chest. Under the team's name is "16" in sewn-on blue numerals. Six silver-gray buttons run down the front. The interior lower left front tail has a Rawlings manufacturer's tag showing size 48. Adjacent to the manufacturer's tag is a tag showing "SET 2 1989." Across the back is "JACKSON" in sewn-on blue letters, and below the player's name is "16" in blue sewn-on numerals. Using a light blue, fine tip marker, Jackson signed the jersey on front in big and bold script. The signed jersey is in EXCELLENT condition.
