Presented is a terrific 1955, Type I signed photo of Brooklyn Dodgers left-hander Johnny Podres, posing with the Dodgers' manager, Hall of Fame skipper Walt Alson, after Podres pitched a complete game victory for the Dodgers' first win, in Game 3, in the 1955 World Series against the New York Yankees. Brooklyn lost the first two games of the Series, both at Yankee Stadium. With the Bums' backs to the wall, Brooklyn returned to Ebbets Field and defeated the Bombers by 8-3. The original News Service photo has a slug line on back that reads, in part, "Brooks pitcher Johnny Podres, (left) who hurled the Dodgers to an 8-3 victory over the Yankees, and pilot Walt Alston, each hold up [a] finger indicating the team's first Series triumph." Podres played 15 Major League seasons, mostly with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers and he had a 148-116 record, including four Dodger World Championships, but he is most remembered for his complete game 2-0 triumph over the Yankees in Game 7 of the 1955 World Series to give the Brooklyn Dodgers the team's only World Championship. Alston, a Hall of Famer for his managing, won four World Championships with the Dodgers. The photograph has a fold near the left bottom corner, some very small stains on the left margin, and small tape remnants on the right margin. Aside from the aforementioned minor defects, the photo is in very nice condition. The approx. 7x9" black & white photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
