Hall of Fame center fielder Mickey Mantle has more home runs than any other switch-hitter in baseball history. Those 536 blasts helped the New York Yankees to seven World Championships during Mantle's 18 years with the Bronx Bombers (1951-68), his entire MLB career. Presented is a Mantle signed and inscribed chef hat, made of paper and card stock. The 3-time AL MVP batted a career .298 and won the Triple Crown in 1956. Mickey helped to capture the interest of the entire baseball world in 1961, when he and Roger Maris chased Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60 home runs, with Maris winding up with 61 round-trippers, and Mantle, missing games because of a hip abscess, finished with 54. The chef's hat has a front-to-back length of approx. 11.5", and a height of 9.7". There are some small rips in the folds of the hat. There is also darkening and foxing apparent. However, the aforementioned imperfections are secondary to the Mantle signature and his inscription. Using what appears to be a fine tip black marker, Mantle exhibits his beautiful penmanship. The last name of the person to whom Mantle was writing is unknown. Mantle wrote, "To Joe/Best Wishes & just be glad you don't have me cookin for you. Keep those plates comin. Mickey Mantle". The hat has a designed star-shaped opening at the top. The offering shows a friendly and playful Mantle inscription, and it makes a fine Mantle remembrance, both humorous and rare.
