Presented is a Jimmy Carter signed Official American League Ball (Budig). Carter, the 39th President of the United States, served in the nation's highest office from 1977-81. He was born in 1924 in Plains, Georgia, and grew up there on the Carter family's peanut farm. At Plains High School, Carter was an avid athlete. He played on the basketball team, competed in the pole vault on the school's track & field team, and he also played American Legion baseball. Carter attended the U.S. Naval Academy, and he was on the school's sprint (lightweight) football team and ran cross-country. After he graduated from the Naval Academy, Carter entered the United States Submarine Force as an Ensign. A Democrat, Carter was the 76th Governor of Georgia, serving from 1971-75. He defeated Republican Gerald Ford, the incumbent, in a closely fought Presidential Election in 1974. His Presidential years featured the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan and the end of U.S./Soviet Union detente. Carter lost the 1978 Presidential Election to Republican Ronald Reagan. As of this writing, former President Carter remains in hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia. A "Jimmy Carter 100" concert will be aired on Georgia Public Television on Oct. 1, 2024, his 100th birthday. Jimmy Carter signed the ball on the sweet spot, using a blue ballpoint pen, and signing as "J Carter." The ball is inside a 3.2" clear, plastic cube. The signed ball comes with a PSA LOA overall grade of 8.
