Presented is a President Gerald Ford signed Official National League Ball (White). Ford was the 38th President of the United States (1974-77). Ford graduated from the University of Michigan, and he was a star center/linebacker on the National Champion Michigan Wolverines in both 1932-33. Once, before a scheduled game between Michigan and Georgia Tech in 1934, the Georgia school refused to play the upcoming game against Michigan if the Wolverines played Willis Ward, an African American player. Ward was Ford's road roommate and Ford's best friend on the football team and Ford said he would refuse to play if Ward was not allowed to take part. Michigan University officials caved in to the Georgia Tech pressure and declined to play Ward, and then Ward convinced Ford to play despite the racial slight Ward had suffered. Ford also graduated from Yale Law School and was a Naval officer on board an aircraft carrier during World War II. A Republican, Ford was the leader of his party in the U.S. House of Representatives before he was elevated to Vice President under Richard Nixon. Ford assumed the U.S. Presidency when Nixon resigned in 1974. Gerald Ford was defeated when he ran for a full term as President in 1977. Ford signed the offered baseball on the sweet spot, signing in blue ballpoint ink. The ball is in EXCELLENT condition, and it comes with a PSA LOA showing an overall grade of 8.5.
