Boston Red Sox home jersey worn by outfielder Dwight Evans during the 1987 season. Graded A9 by MEARS. The white knit jersey is lettered "Red Sox" across the front and features the number "24" on the reverse. All numerals and letters are applied in red on navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson" label, an adjacent "44" size tag, and the year, "87," which is chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag. A Boston Red Sox "75th Anniversary" patch adorns the left sleeve. The jersey is original as issued and displays heavy use, including fraying to the red piping. 1987 marked Evans' finest overall season in the Majors. Appearing in 154 games, Evans enjoyed career-high totals in home runs (34), RBI (123), batting average (.305), and on-base percentage (.417) while also leading the American League in bases on balls (106). Those numbers helped earn him a fourth-place finish in the American League MVP balloting at season's end. Evans enjoyed an outstanding twenty-year Major League career (1972-91), with all but his final season spent as a member of the Boston Red Sox. One of the finest defensive outfielders of his era, and winner of eight Gold Glove Awards, he finished his career with 385 home runs, 1,384 RBI, and a .272 lifetime average. Full LOA from MEARS (graded A9, with one point deducted for the frayed piping).
