Boston Red Sox home jersey worn by catcher Jason Varitek during the club's historic 2004 World Championship season. Graded A10 by MEARS. The white knit jersey is lettered "Red Sox" across the front and features the number "33" on the reverse. All numerals and letters are applied in red on navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic" label, a "2004" year tag, and an adjacent "50" size tag. The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate use. (The accompanying MEARS LOA states that the jersey has a team repair. That is an error. Lelands does not see any team repairs and the accompanying MEARS worksheet also notes that there are NO team repairs.) Catcher Jason Varitek was a key member of the Red Sox in 2004. Appearing in 137 games, Varitek batted .296 with 18 home runs and 73 RBI to help "reverse the curse" and lead the club to its first World Championship since 1918. Varitek spent his entire fifteen-year career (1997-2011) in a Boston Red Sox uniform and following the 2004 World Series he was named captain of the club. A four-time All-Star and Golden Glove Award winner, he retired with 193 home runs, 757 RBI, and a .256 lifetime average. Full LOA from MEARS (graded A10).
