Rare navy 1992 "Dream Team" Olympic men's basketball team jersey produced for future Hall of Fame forward Charles Barkley. This garment, along with two other 1992 Olympic men's basketball team jerseys in this auction, has a unique provenance: it has been consigned directly by the former Manager of Team Operations for Champion, the company that supplied the jerseys for the 1992 Olympic men's basketball team. As he relates in an accompanying letter of provenance, each member of the fabled "Dream Team" traveled overseas for the Olympic games with two sets of white jerseys and two sets of blue jerseys. The offered jersey was an extra that was securely held at company headquarters in case one of the other two blue jerseys was lost, damaged, or stolen. Luckily, none of those mishaps occurred and when the Olympic games were over, as the official steward of the spare jerseys, our consignor was allowed to keep them as souvenirs. It must be noted that the offered jersey is identical to the ones worn by Barkley during the Olympics and is one of only a few such official Olympic "Dream Team" jerseys ever produced. Given the extreme rarity, not to mention the exorbitant prices that game-worn "Dream Team" jerseys command at auction, an example such as this is the next best alternative for any collector wishing to own a piece of Olympic basketball history. The navy mesh jersey is lettered "USA Basketball" on the front and features the number "14" on the front and reverse. "Barkley" is lettered on the reverse, directly above the name. All front lettering is applied in white and red silk-screened paint, while all reverse lettering is applied in white silk-screened paint. All numerals are applied in red on white silk-screened paint. Located on the left front tail are a "Champion 50" label and a second Champion label that reads in part "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for 1992 Summer Olympic Games." The jersey is original as issued and shows no use. Together with a letter of provenance from the consignor.
