Large oil on canvas painting, by noted baseball artist Andy Jurinko, capturing the drama of Bobby Thomson's historic "Shot Heard Round the World" in 1951. Signed and dated ("1995") by the artist in the lower left corner. Jurinko (1939-2011), who was noted for his realistic oil paintings, captures the sheer exhilaration of the New York Giants players as they mob Thomson at home plate after his walk-off home run that captured the 1951 pennant for New York. In looking at this painting, one cannot help but hear radio announcer Russ Hodges' memorable call: "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! Bobby hit it into the lower deck of the left-field stands... The Giants win the pennant and they're going crazy..." This is one of Jurinko's best-known paintings, with the image later issued as a lithograph published by Bill Goff. In addition to signing the painting on the front, Jurinko has also signed and dated the piece in black marker on the reverse of the canvas. Additional writing on the reverse, also in Jurinko's hand, reads "Bobby Thomson, 1951/New York Giants/32" x 42" 1995." The painting, which measures 42x32", remains in Near Mint condition. Framed to total dimensions of 42.5x32.5". Please Note: The size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
