Made famous by Heinie Groh, the bottle bat is one of the more visually appealing vintage bats ever created. When Groh first came up to the Major Leagues with John McGraw's Giants, the legendary manager suggested the use of the bottle bat. McGraw's reasoning was that Groh's small hands could grip the narrow handle more easily than a bigger handle, and the huge barrel would make up for the weight loss from a standard handle and thus provide the weight and size for contact. Even though this bat was not used by Groh, it does show use with grain swelling throughout back barrel. On the end of the barrel is a 2-3" piece of wood missing, and there is 1-2" piece missing from the knob as well. Bat measures 33". Without any player name written or stamped on the bat, we cannot determine who used it. Center brand reads "No. 200, Hand Turned, Oil Temp, Made in U.S.A" with Spalding Trademark logo in center. Spalding logo is stamped on knob.
