Displayed is a Larry Bird rookie year signed Type I original photograph showing the Hall of Famer, one of the NBA's all-time greats, on the court at Boston Garden during the 1979-80 season when he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. That year, Boston had a 61-21 regular season record, but the Celtics were defeated in the East Conference Finals by the Philadelphia 76ers. Bird played in the NBA from 1979-92, exclusively for the Boston Celtics. Known as "the Hick from French Lick," he played both small forward and power forward, but what he really played, described most accurately, was "point forward" - a hybrid position in which the Boston Celtics offense was run through him. In his rookie season, Bird averaged 21.3 PPG, 10.0 TRB, and 6.3 AST. Bird was a 3-time NBA Champion, a 2-time Finals MVP, a 3-time NBA MVP, and a 12-time all-star. For his career, Bird averaged 24.3 PPG, 10.4 TRB, and 6.3 AST. After his playing career, Bird coached the Indiana Pacers and became a pro basketball executive. The 3.5x4.8" color snapshot offering is neatly signed by Bird in 9/10 blue Sharpie near the bottom of the photo. The photo depicts Bird on the Boston Celtics' famous parquet floor, next to Philadelphia 76ers forward Bobby Jones, who often guarded Bird. The back of the photo is dated "May 1980," during the playoffs of Bird's first NBA season. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified Type I AUTHENTIC. The autograph has also been authenticated by PSA/DNA.
