Original film negative capturing Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson, circa 1927, taken by noted Chicago baseball photographer George Burke. The legendary "Big Train" is pictured warming up on the sideline prior to a game. Positive attribution to Burke can be made due to the inventory number ("388-A8") printed along the top border (this inventory number sequence was typical for Burke and can be seen on many of his negatives and finished photos). Since Burke was based in Chicago, which hosted two Major League clubs, he had access to all the Major League players during his long career. While we have seen a real-photo postcard featuring this image, we cannot recall having seen a Type I photo made from this negative. The negative (4.75x6.75") remains in Excellent condition. Please note: the positive image seen on our website is for illustrative purposes only and does not accompany the negative; only the negative is offered in this lot.
